Southern California Korean Population Research
Project Overview
Valuable insights are available through population data, particularly for the Korean community. However, collecting and presenting population data can be difficult due to differing views and purposes among organizations. The SoDAVi Group is currently collecting, cleaning, and analyzing Korean population data from various sources and has created a visualization dashboard for the Korean population in the City of Los Angeles.
Top 10 Most Populated Areas
We found the most populated regions for 3 SoCal counties (Los Angeles, Orange, and San Bernardino). We found that Orange County consistently had the highest number in terms of the Korean population, specifically Fullerton. Other than Fullerton, Buena Park and Koreatown in LA consistently had the highest Korean population.
Multiple Linear Regression Analysis
From our analysis, we found that variables Income, Chinese%, Asian%, Bachelor’s%, Bachelor or Higher%, White%, Asian Indian%, county_37 (Los Angeles County) correlates with, or has an influence on, the % of Korean People in that region.
Korean Population by County
We can see that the counties with the largest Korean population are consistently LA, Orange, and San Bernardino. This may be because LA is the largest county (2346 CT20s total), then Orange County (583 CT20s), and San Bernardino is the smallest (369 CT20s). The most populated area by census tract number (CT20) is actually in Orange County.
