Korean Population in Los Angeles

Population data are widely used in various fields when dealing with social issues, regional and local development, and business plans, etc. Especially, Korean population data are invaluable in that they can be utilized for solving social, scientific, and business issues that are closely related to Korean community. However, collecting, cleaning, and presenting such ethnic-based population data are not easy because different entities and organizations collect and share population data in different views and purposes. The SoDAVi Group is running an on-going project to collect, clean, and present Korean population data gathered from various sources such as US Census Bureau, County voter registrar's office, Korean Embassy/Consul General. etc. A visualization dashboard below shows Korean population in the City of Los Angeles per US Census Tract and also per City Council District. (The Tract is the finest granularity of geographic region US Census Bureau uses.) The visualization uses a population estimate reported by ACS (American Census Survey) every 5 years based on their yearly sample data and calculated by statistical methods to estimate 5-year population per tract.
